Hey Travelers! TSA PreCheck is like a magic key for frequent flyers in the United States. It’s a program by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that makes your journey through airport security lines faster and more convenient. In this guide, we’ll dissect how the program works, where you can find it, the cost, and so much more. Although I can’t personally vouch, endorse, or recommend this program, it could be an option worth investigating. Let’s dive into the essential details you need to know!
Cost
The price to enroll varies depending on the enrollment provider you choose. There are two providers – Idemia and Telos. Idemia charges $78 for enrollment and $70 for online renewal. If you prefer an in-person renewal, it’s $78. On the other hand, Telos charges $85 for enrollment and $70 for both online and in-person renewal. So, choose the one that suits you best.
Benefits of TSA PreCheck
Swift Security Lines: The wait time is usually less than 10 minutes. For me, I’ve never had to wait more than five minutes.
Widespread Availability: More than 200 airports in the United States offer TSA PreCheck, and over 90 airlines participate in the program.
Skip the Shoe Removal Dance: No need to take off your shoes, making the security process smoother, especially if you’re not wearing socks.
Efficient Process: Forget about removing your computer, 3-1-1 liquids, light jackets, or belts. Having TSA PreCheck streamlines the screening process.
Family-Friendly: The perks extend to your family. Children under 17 can join adults with TSA PreCheck if it’s on the child’s boarding pass.
Eligibility
This program is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and lawful permanent residents. Additionally, Canadian citizens with NEXUS membership can also apply. However, eligibility might be affected by certain criminal offenses, incomplete applications, or federal security violations.
How To Apply For TSA PreCheck
Pre-Enroll Online or Walk-In: Make an appointment online or walk into an enrollment center. Visit tsa.gov/precheck for more details.
In-Person Visit: First-time applicants must visit an enrollment center in person for document submission and fingerprinting.
Known Traveler Number (KTN): Once approved, most applicants receive their KTN within 3-5 days. It can take up to 60 days in some cases. Check your application status online.
Adding KTN to Your Ticket: When purchasing airline tickets, add your KTN to the reservation (only with participating airlines). If forgotten, you can usually add it later through the airline’s app or at the ticket counter.
