A political officer in the U.S. Foreign Service seeks to understand the political situation that is happening within a host country. They also, analyze a host country’s domestic and foreign policies. Additionally, they seek to align both U.S. and host country interests.
One cool thing to know about political officers is that they use their persuasion skills to persuade host governments to adopt policies or take certain actions. Foreign Service Political officers also maintains contacts with national and local governments and think tanks, NGOs, journalists, etc.
