Hey Travelers! A lot of you ask me to talk about relationships and the Foreign Service. This is something that I definitely wanted to know about before becoming a diplomat. There are many different sides to relationships in the Foreign Service like being single, dating, long-distance relationships, married, married with kids, and divorced in the Foreign Service.
I plan to talk about these different areas to the extent that I can. If I don’t have experience in the area, I will bring a guest on to talk about it.
I have been in the Foreign Service for almost five years. I have been with the State Department for seven years as a fellow. During this time I have had many transitions. When I was a fellow and in grad school, I was single. I did my internship in Vietnam and I did date there.
When I started the Foreign Service in 2019, I just met my husband. I met my husband during the same week I accepted my offer letter. He has been with me on this Foreign Service journey since the beginning. We went from dating, to in a long distance relationship, to engaged, planning a wedding, and eventually married. It’s been a whirlwind to say the least.
Below are some videos related to my experience being in a relationship in the Foreign Service. If you would like me to talk about a specific topic, let me know in the comment section below!
