IR Scholarships For Women Of Color

Are you looking for IR scholarships to help fund you study abroad? Look no further! Below are IR scholarships that you can apply to if you’re interested in international relations, diplomacy, languages, or a career in government.

1. Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship

The Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship is a U.S. Department of State grant program that assists students in financial need to study or intern overseas. The program encourages the participation of underrepresented groups in study abroad. These groups include but are not limited to ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students attending HBCUs, STEM students, and first-generation college students. The Gilman Scholarship also encourages students to study and intern in non-traditional countries.

Award amounts for Gilman Scholarships vary by student need and length of study. However, students can win up to $5000 for one scholarship. Students studying a critical language can apply for a supplemental award up to $3,000.

2. Critical Language Scholarship

If you have a love for languages, this scholarship is for you. The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) is a U.S. State Department program that provides foreign language instructions and cultural immersion experiences for American undergraduate and graduate students. Students can choose from a list of 15 critical languages to study during the summer.

3. Boren Languages For Undergrads

This scholarship is also for those who wish to study a language and are interested in serving in the national security sector of the U.S. government. The Boren scholarship program provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages that are critical to U.S. interests.

Foreign Government-Sponsored IR Scholarships

Darmasiswa Scholarship

This scholarship allows all foreign citizens from countries which have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to study Bahasa Indonesian, music, arts, and crafts during a one-year non-degree program. The Indonesian government sponsors this program.
