Hey Travelers! Today, we are going to explore how to be more consistent this year. One area of my life that I am always trying to improve in is the area of consistency. According to Dictionary.com, consistency is defined as, “the steadfast adherence to the same principles, course, form, etc.” To me, this definition means showing up day in and day out, doing the same thing over and over again. When this happens it becomes a habit. When what you do becomes a habit…depending what it is it, it can bring your closer or further away from success or your goals.
While showing up day in and day out, doing the same thing over and over again sounds good in theory. For many, including myself, it can be a challenge.
Recently, I listened to a podcast by a mentor. KevonStage is not actually my mentor, but I listen to the advice he puts online and have watched him grow over the years as a comedian. And while I don’t want to become a comedian, I admire his work ethic and consistency. Everyday, he shows up and posts at least three videos a day on his various social media platforms.
On the podcast, he shared his recipe for consistency. He used an analogy of a Baseball game. KevonStage said that your goal shouldn’t be trying to get a home run. Instead, he said that you should aim to just make contact with the ball each day. Each day try to make contact with the ball. When you are consistent with just making contact, eventually you will hit a home run.
Hearing this felt freeing. Making contact with the ball makes attaining a home run more achievable. It breaks a big, lofty goal down into bite-sized pieces. Everyday, just showing up…putting your best foot forward will hopefully lead the big results. It is the idea of showing up every day, trying to make contact with the ball…even if you swing and miss sometimes…that will help you become more consistent and ultimately reach your wildest dreams.
Cheers to more consistency this year.
Until next time,
Chelsea
