Hey Travelers! Are you planning your next holiday trip and want to save some cash? The timing of your flight can make a big difference in your travel expenses. In this post, we are going to unpack the best time to book your holiday travel. We will look at the best and worst times to fly, making sure you get the most out of your budget.
Flying around the holidays, Spring Break, and the summer can be pricier.
Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November. There is usually a travel rush from Wednesday to Sunday. Prices typically soar especially on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the following Sunday after the holiday. Consider flying on the day of Thanksgiving or Black Friday for potential savings.
During Christmas and New Year, prices are high around the actual holidays. Historically, prices drop on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
Spring Break varies with family schedules and college breaks. During times when people take Spring break, there is often an increase in prices. Families travel closer to Easter, while college students peak in March.
Summer, from Memorial Day onward, is a popular time for vacations, which causes ticket prices to rise.
For budget-friendly options, consider flying during low peak periods, the winter season, or on specific weekdays.
Low Peak and Winter Season, excluding warmer destinations and ski towns, may offer flight deals.
Spring and Fall, excluding Spring Break and around Thanksgiving, are also budget-friendly times to travel.
According to Airfarewatchdog, experts agree that Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are the cheapest days to fly. Take advantage of these weekdays for potential savings on your next adventure.
And even though “experts” state that these days are the best days to fly, I am fully a proponent of monitoring the flight prices for at least a few weeks to a couple of months. Play around with the dates. If you find a flight price that you are comfortable with, after monitoring the prices, book it.
Choosing the right time to fly can make your travel budget stretch further, allowing you to enjoy more experiences at your destination.
